Approximately 97% of all, or over 1.5 million pounds of, used sails are sent to landfills or incinerated annually worldwide. Because they are constructed from durable, non-biodegradable synthetic materials like Dacron, they do not break down easily. So we reuse those sails and turn them into totes, sling bags, purses, you name it!
This NC Sailcloth tote features:
• White *sailcloth interior and exterior
• The outline of North Carolina on the front was an added feature made out of Insignia Adhesive Backed Blue and zig zagged stitched into place
• The back has a black check like Insignia Adhesive Backed symbol from the original boat, I have no idea what it means
• Interior zipper pocket with a donut zipper pull
• Two woven labels: Such-n-Sew Studio and Made Near the Ocean
• Hidden seams
• Boxed bottom so it can stand up
• Two durable cotton webbing handles
• UV protected durable polyester thread. The same thread used in sails
• Overall measurements approximately 20”W x 6”D x 14”H
*Sailcloth is very durable and dries fast. It can be water resistant or splash proof, but usually not 100% waterproof. We reuse well traveled sails in our creations. They’ve been soaked and scrubbed, but some residual stains and marks are embedded in the material…it adds character. Hand wash with a light detergent. Air dry only.
